About Us
We were brought up in a Ukrainian family and an important part of our family culture is to welcome everyone to our home with tea and lots of home-baked cakes. During our school days, our entire class of 25 would frequently visit as they knew a full table of goodies would be waiting for everyone – our Mum loved to feed!
When we arrived in England over 20 years ago, we fell in love with the quintessentially English ‘Afternoon Tea’ concept of getting together with family and friends to enjoy tea and cakes, just like at home. Over the years we had several discussions between us (Olga and Anna) about creating a special environment for people to meet and enjoy quality time together. We have both lived in Coxheath for many years and as we were fond of the village vibe, we looked for a local village-based premises that we could turn into a cosy coffee house.
When the opportunity to take on the Old Post Office in Marden came up, we knew immediately it was exactly the place we had in mind. We loved the history of the building as well as the strong sense of community amongst the villagers of Marden – it inspired us to turn our coffee house dream into a reality. It felt only natural to keep the name of the Old Post Office and bring some original features into the building.
We decided to replicate the outside wall inside as the main wall of the coffee house, and the bicycle that hangs on the wall at the top of the stairs was kindly donated by Peter Hall – this bicycle was used by the local postman back in the day.
We cannot forget Marden History Society who were so patient with us when we were setting up and provided us with all of the old photos that you can see displayed throughout the coffee house. A special mention must go to Graham Tippen, the grandson of the gentleman who ran the bike/gift shop in the same building in the early 1900’s. Graham is a lovely loyal customer and brings life into the coffee house every time he visits.
Our interests go hand-in-hand with running the coffee house – Anna is a huge coffee fan so naturally took great pleasure in the careful selection process when choosing our coffee beans. Olga takes after her mum with a passion for tasty food and sweet treats and the coffee house menu and selection of goodies has been lovingly curated by Olga. All of our cakes and bakes are produced by local bakeries and Olga herself.
We offer something for everyone, ranging from our hugely popular (and enormous) cheese scones and cheese straws to our classic baguettes (baked daily), paninis, jacket potatoes and more.
We feel extremely priveledged to be here serving the community of Marden and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has assisted and supported us on our journey to make our lifelong dream a wonderful reality.
